"it's too cliche i won't say i'm in love"

Meg

"it feels so good when you start out"

Meg is a badass. She is a fan favorite along with her powerful ballad, I Won’t Say I’m in Love. These lyrics signify important character development for Meg. We see her open up her heart and begin to thaw towards Hercules. Before this we only saw Meg with other characters, constantly interacting with others through a guard built on sharp wit and scathing insults. We do not get to know what she is truly feeling in those particular moments. This is Meg’s time to shine, even more so than when she interacts with others. The lyrics show that her heart and her head are at war. The audience can infer who the winner is going to be. Meg explains through her song that she has, “Been there, done that.” She has a bad history with love, and her heart has been broken. Although, it does not always have to be broken. Meg is aware that she does not need a man, but there is nothing wrong with wanting one. The whole time Meg is trying to deny her feelings, while the Muses are on her case like Jiminy Cricket. The only reason Meg is denying the love she is feeling is because her heart was broken in the past. This song is a way of showing her strength, and that she is not stuck in the past anymore. I Won’t Say I’m in Love does not make her like every other female character we have seen. She is falling for a man, but does so on her own terms, and she does not rush into anything without thinking. Meg knows he is the one, and I Won’t Say I’m in love is her ironic way of expressing that.

"at least out loud i won't say i'm in love"
