During the first choirs of the song he did not know his true past, but he always knew that there were bigger and better things awaiting him. There is a significant pause between Go the Distance. Hercules’ human parents finally tell him how he came to be their child. The second half of the song then carries on. Hercules is now positive of this far off place he had been dreaming of. Go the Distance is his moment of realization of his self-worth. He is willing to push himself harder than ever to achieve what he always knew he could.
